WE REQUEST NETFLIX TO BROADCAST ITS CONTENT IN BASQUE
Netflix, the world’s biggest streaming television provider, arrived in Spain and France between 2012 and 2016. And when it did, it didn’t even consider the Basque language nor the potential 800.000 Basque-speaking consumers of the platform.
The streaming platform came to the Spanish market with a catalog of series and movies just available in Spanish and English. It was similar in the French market: the series and movies were available just in French and English.
This is the answer given by the company to the request made by people, collectives and agents of other minority languages: that the option of broadcasting the content in minority languages is subject to the real demand from their speakers.
Therefore, by means of the present we want to declare to Netflix the following: the Basque-speakers want to enjoy the platform’s audiovisual contents in Basque.
